What does ASE mean?
The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence ASE, is short for the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence. Since 1972 they have been an independent non-profit organization that has worked to improve the quality of vehicle repair and service advisors by testing and certifying automotive professionals. The process to become ASE Certified is not easy. In order to attain ASE Certification, technicians must complete a minimum of 2 years of qualified work experience and pass challenging tests for each certification. Only two out of every three test takers will pass on their first attempt. Additionally, to ensure technician’s are up-to-date on all the current systems and technologies, ASE Certified Technicians are required to prove their technician knowledge by retesting every 5 years to keep their certifications current.
Additionally, ASE exists to protect the automotive service customer, shop owners and service professionals. They test and certify automotive service professionals so that the shops like Orozco’s Auto Service and and their customers can better gauge a technician’s level of expertise before contracting the technician’s services. They certify the service individual so they can offer tangible proof of their technical knowledge.
